Delhi Government’s Hindi Academy Renames Literary Awards After Figures Linked to Hindutva and Freedom Fighters

New Delhi: In a major change to its annual literary awards programme, the Delhi government’s Hindi Academy has renamed several existing awards after personalities associated with Hindutva ideology and after freedom fighters.

नई दिल्ली: दिल्ली सरकार की हिंदी अकादमी ने अपने वार्षिक साहित्यिक पुरस्कार कार्यक्रम में बड़ा बदलाव करते हुए कई मौजूदा पुरस्कारों का नाम हिंदुत्व विचारधारा से जुड़े व्यक्तित्वों और स्वतंत्रता सेनानियों के नाम पर रख दिया है.

According to a report by the news agency PTI, the academy has changed the names of the awards and, in some cases, their prize money as well.

समाचार एजेंसी पीटीआई की रिपोर्ट के अनुसार, अकादमी ने पुरस्कारों के नाम और कुछ मामलों में उनकी पुरस्कार राशि में भी परिवर्तन किया है.

The ‘Veer Savarkar Samman,’ named after RSS ideologue Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, will be given for contributions in the field of national consciousness and will carry a cash award of two lakh rupees. The ‘Atal Bihari Vajpayee Culture and Knowledge Tradition Samman,’ meanwhile, will recognize work done to promote and disseminate Indian culture and knowledge traditions. This honor will carry a cash award of five lakh rupees.

आरएसएस के विचारक विनायक दामोदर सावरकर के नाम पर रखा गया ‘वीर सावरकर सम्मान’ राष्ट्रीय चेतना के क्षेत्र में योगदान के लिए दिया जाएगा और इसके साथ दो लाख रुपये की पुरस्कार राशि दी जाएगी. वहीं, ‘अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी संस्कृति तथा ज्ञान परंपरा सम्मान’ भारतीय संस्कृति और ज्ञान परंपराओं के प्रचार-प्रसार के लिए किए गए कार्यों को सम्मानित करेगा. इस सम्मान के साथ पांच लाख रुपये की पुरस्कार राशि दी जाएगी.

The academy’s highest honor, the ‘Hindi Academy Shalaka Samman,’ has been renamed the ‘Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Shalaka Samman.’ The prize money attached to it has also been increased from five lakh rupees to seven lakh rupees.

अकादमी के सर्वोच्च सम्मान ‘हिंदी अकादमी शलाका सम्मान’ का नाम बदलकर ‘पंडित दीनदयाल उपाध्याय शलाका सम्मान’ कर दिया गया है. इसके साथ मिलने वाली पुरस्कार राशि भी पांच लाख रुपये से बढ़ाकर सात लाख रुपये कर दी गई है.

In addition, the ‘Hindi Sevi Samman’ has been renamed after senior BJP leader Vijay Kumar Malhotra, who died in September last year. This honor will be given for the promotion, dissemination, and service of the Hindi language.

इसके अलावा, ‘हिंदी सेवी सम्मान’ का नाम बदलकर भाजपा के वरिष्ठ नेता विजय कुमार मल्होत्रा के नाम पर रखा गया है, जिनका पिछले वर्ष सितंबर में निधन हो गया था. यह सम्मान हिंदी भाषा के प्रचार-प्रसार और सेवा के लिए दिया जाएगा.

The award given to women writers, earlier instituted in memory of anti-corruption activist Santosh Koli, will now be named after the Maratha Hindu ruler Rani Ahilyabai Holkar. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government had instituted the award after Santosh Koli died in a road accident in 2013. Given for contributions in the field of national consciousness, the honor carries a cash award of two lakh rupees.

महिला साहित्यकारों के लिए दिया जाने वाला पुरस्कार, जो पहले भ्रष्टाचार विरोधी कार्यकर्ता संतोष कोली की स्मृति में स्थापित था, अब मराठा हिंदू शासक रानी अहिल्याबाई होल्कर के नाम पर होगा. आम आदमी पार्टी (आप) सरकार ने 2013 में सड़क दुर्घटना में संतोष कोली की मृत्यु के बाद यह पुरस्कार शुरू किया था. राष्ट्रीय चेतना के क्षेत्र में योगदान के लिए दिए जाने वाले इस सम्मान के साथ दो लाख रुपये की राशि प्रदान की जाती है.

Honors carrying prize money of one lakh rupees each include the ‘Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya Hindi Literary Figure Samman,’ the ‘Baba Zorawar Singh Samman’ for children’s literature, and the ‘Swami Vivekananda Young Talent Samman.’ Those contributing to Hindi journalism will be given a cash award of one lakh rupees under the ‘Vidyanivas Mishra Samman.’

एक-एक लाख रुपये की पुरस्कार राशि वाले सम्मानों में ‘पंडित मदन मोहन मालवीय हिंदी साहित्यकार सम्मान’, बाल साहित्य के लिए ‘बाबा जोरावर सिंह सम्मान’ और ‘स्वामी विवेकानंद युवा प्रतिभा सम्मान’ शामिल हैं. हिंदी पत्रकारिता में योगदान देने वालों को ‘विद्यानिवास मिश्र सम्मान’ के तहत एक लाख रुपये की पुरस्कार राशि दी जाएगी.

Other honors include the ‘Nirmal Verma Samman’ for translation, the ‘Ramchandra Shukla Hindi Excellence Samman,’ the ‘Vasudev Sharan Agrawal Samman’ for folk writing, the ‘Devendra Swarup Samman’ for writing in the field of social sciences, the ‘Mridula Sinha Samman’ for women writers, and the ‘Narendra Kohli Samman’ for contributions across various literary genres.

अन्य सम्मानों में अनुवाद के लिए ‘निर्मल वर्मा सम्मान’, ‘रामचंद्र शुक्ल हिंदी उत्कर्ष सम्मान’, लोक लेखन के लिए ‘वासुदेव शरण अग्रवाल सम्मान’, सामाजिक विज्ञान विषय में लेखन के लिए ‘देवेंद्र स्वरूप सम्मान’, महिला लेखिकाओं के लिए ‘मृदुला सिन्हा सम्मान’ और विभिन्न साहित्यिक विधाओं में योगदान के लिए ‘नरेंद्र कोहली सम्मान’ शामिल हैं.

In all, 16 award categories have been designated, with prize money ranging from one lakh rupees to seven lakh rupees. The academy has invited nominations from eligible literary figures for the academic years 2022-23, 2023-24, 2024-25, and 2025-26. The last date for submitting nominations is June 23, 2026. कुल मिलाकर 16 पुरस्कार श्रेणियां निर्धारित की गई हैं, जिनकी पुरस्कार राशि एक लाख रुपये से लेकर सात लाख रुपये तक है. अकादमी ने शैक्षणिक वर्ष 2022-23, 2023-24, 2024-25 और 2025-26 के लिए पात्र साहित्यकारों से नामांकन मांगा हैं. नामांकन जमा करने की अंतिम तिथि 23 जून 2026 है. सभी पुरस्कारों का विवरण अकादमी की वेबसाइट पर उपलब्ध कराया गया है.

The Hindi Academy was established in 1981 as an autonomous institution with the aim of preserving and promoting the Hindi language, literature, and culture. The academy also runs the ‘Literary Figure Honor Scheme,’ under which writers, poets, and journalists from Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) are honored.

हिंदी अकादमी की स्थापना वर्ष 1981 में हिंदी भाषा, साहित्य और संस्कृति के संरक्षण एवं संवर्धन के उद्देश्य से एक स्वायत्त संस्था के रूप में की गई थी. अकादमी ‘साहित्यकार सम्मान योजना’ भी संचालित करती है, जिसके तहत दिल्ली और राष्ट्रीय राजधानी क्षेत्र (एनसीआर) के लेखकों, कवियों और पत्रकारों को सम्मानित किया जाता है.
