Sandata Residents Celebrate Completion of Repairs to Main Street Road

After more than a decade of petitions, letters, signatures, and public meetings, villagers in Russia’s Rostov region marked the long-awaited repair of their main road with a festive celebration.

Residents of the village of Sandata in the Salsky District of Rostov Region marked the completion of repairs to the road on the main street with a ceremonial celebration. Footage from the event was published by local media.

Подробности. По словам журналистов, жители Сандаты более десяти лет добивались ремонта дороги на улице Мира — они обращались в сельскую и районную администрации, писали письма, собирали подписи и участвовали в сходах.

Details. According to journalists, Sandata residents had been seeking repairs to the road on Mira Street for more than ten years: they appealed to the village and district administrations, wrote letters, gathered signatures, and took part in public meetings.

About three years ago, officials promised to find funds to restore the road. In the end, this year road workers laid asphalt on Mira Street and also took up repairs on two neighboring lanes. According to media reports, the work cost about 12 million rubles.

To mark the occasion, residents held a festive celebration with a shared meal and dancing. They also drew hopscotch squares on the road and began jumping through them. Several people also lined up holding sheets of paper with letters that together spelled the word “road.”
